Meroddi Pera Flats: Living Right at the Galata Tower

I don't think I've taken as many photos out of a window at any accommodation in Istanbul as here.

Our experience at the Meroddi Pera Flats in Galata: the Galata Tower outside the window, kitchen, dishwasher, roof terrace and a perfect location.

And I'm hardly exaggerating. We came in, I looked out – and there it was. The Galata Tower. Right in front of us. And from that moment I was lost. 😂

Every time we were in the apartment, it felt like I was standing at the window again.

Important Upfront: The Name Has Changed

We still got to know the accommodation as Meroddi Pera Flats. On the operator's current site it is listed as Meroddi Galata Flats.

The current official address is: Çelik Apartmanı, Şahkulu, Tımarcı Sokak No:6, Beyoğlu.

According to the operator, the apartments are only about 200 metres from the Galata Tower.

The Location: Really a Dream for Galata Fans

Two minutes towards the Galata Tower. A few minutes towards İstiklal. Şişhane metro is also quickly reached. And if you go down towards Karaköy, you reach the tram.

For me that is one of those locations where in the morning you don't first have to think: “How do I even get anywhere now?”

No Breakfast? In Galata It Hardly Matters.

I normally like breakfast in the hotel. Very much so. But here? Honestly: you have what feels like a hundred options all around.

In the morning we simply picked something up or went to have breakfast somewhere. Simit. Börek. Coffee. A proper Turkish breakfast.

The Apartment: Spacious and Really Practical

Our apartment was nice and big and had a proper kitchen. Among other things we had: kitchen, dishwasher, fridge, cooking facilities, dining table, chairs, lots of space.

The current Meroddi site still confirms fully equipped kitchens with dishwasher, fridge and stove.

Was Everything Brand New? No.

Some things already looked a bit dated during our stay. For example the washbasin.

Was that a problem for us? No. Honestly: I could see the Galata Tower from the window. The washbasin no longer got to me emotionally. 😂

And Then Comes the Roof Terrace

At the top there is a shared roof terrace. 360 degrees of Istanbul. Roofs. Galata. City.

The operator's current site still explicitly lists the shared roof terraces as part of the accommodation.

But Let's Talk About Galata and STEEP Streets

Galata is beautiful. Galata is historic. But Galata has apparently decided that every guest gets a free leg workout on top. 😂

When you walk back up from Karaköy below, the street is in places really steep. And that's where my favourite trick comes in: Tünel. You ride the historic funicular up. Get out at the top. And from there you only walk a few minutes downhill towards the hotel. Done.

Public Transport

Metro

Şişhane is only a few minutes away.

Historic Red Tram

You also reach İstiklal with its nostalgic tram very quickly.

Perfect for avoiding the climb between Karaköy and Beyoğlu.

Tram Below

If you go down towards Karaköy, you reach the T1 connection.

Who Is the Apartment Perfect For?

• love Galata
• like to stay centrally
• want more space than in a classic hotel room
• find a kitchen practical
• are staying longer
• like to have breakfast independently

Yes. The location is simply too good. And looking out of the window in the morning and seeing the Galata Tower? You don't forget that.
